The Gentle Carpet Philadelphia 2019
The Gentle Carpet
Philadelphia
G.T.Design, the pioneer Italian manufacturer of contemporary rugs, will showcase “The Gentle Carpet”, an installation of timeless carpet designs, at the Design Philadelphia 2019 Festival.
The Gentle Carpet, curated by G.T.Design’s Creative Director Deanna Comellini, takes center stage in selected design stores around the world such as Dom Interior (New York, U.S.A.), Cassina IXC (Tokyo, Japan) and Salvioni Design Solutions (Milan, Italy). The touring exhibition has arrived now in Philadelphia.
The display is designed as an understated and harmonious complement the space furnishing, highlighting the essential role of the textile component in interior design and architectural projects; alternately, the signature rugs are rolled-up like parchment and presented in precious cabinets to illustrate the fine details of the materials.
A pioneer in the contemporary rug industry, G.T.Design combines artisanal techniques and manual craftsmanship with cutting edge technology to produce unique and luxurious products with an unparalleled attention to detail. An artistic approach to the product is fueled by a constant drive to explore the design process, ranging from the research of natural fibers and technical yarns, to new weaving systems, from hand painting methods to digital printing.
After forty years of activity, research and experimentation remain at the core of the brand co-founded by Deanna Comellini and Michele Preti that resulted, for example, in the creation of first contemporary rug handmade with precious coconut fiber (Coconutrug), and an innovative use of as viscose to capture and reflect light (Kama rug).
As Deanna Comellini, the brand’s art director, pointed out: “We always look to the past to review the signs and signals and capture possible recognizable inspiration; we also look to the future to extend further into unknown territories and experiment something new”.

Deanna Comellini
Deanna Comellini, Creative Director and Founder of G.T.Design, has worked for more than 40 years on the notion of the contemporary rug. With an obsessive quest for an impeccable color palette, top-quality natural materials and high-performance technical yarns, she perfectly blends nature, light and color into her collections. Giving the weaving process a modern expression, she made textiles and contemporary rugs an essential element in interior design.
Comellini’s creative process focuses on yarn and textile research and experimentation. Natural fibers – such as linen, coconut, bamboo, pure wool, hemp, silk and natural derivatives such as Tencel – are an essential element of her design and processing methods. One example is the Coconutrug, G.T.Design’s first patented rug handmade with precious coconut fiber, ideal for areas with heavy footfall. She also uses modern technical yarns such as viscose to give an incomparable sheen and color depth to the Kama rug, among the company’s bestselling products and a trend setter in the industry.
Comellini combines craftsmanship and modern manufacturing technologies to produce unique and luxurious products with an unparalleled attention to detail. Her drive to discover, explore and safeguard traditional techniques from various international cultures led her to process the idea of the ‘imperfect design’. With an artistic vision of the product rather than an industrial one, she highlights craftmanship’s imperfections and delightful flaws in her stunning creations.
Currently, she undertakes the exciting digital era for rug design which allows the production of customizable rugs in large dimensions. She also works closely with architects and interior design professionals on international residential and commercial projects.
At the core of G.T.Design is a deep commitment to sustainability driven by Comellini’s strong relationship with nature and her quest to celebrate and preserve it.
